Life long dream coming true

A life long dream of Coach Nancy is to have her own lap pool.

That dream has finally come TRUE as the pool was completed August 15 2013!

In the beginning

Hey Coach Nancy - how did you happen to get your start in triathlons?

In 1978 I saw the first Ironman, at the time, it was held on Oahu, where I also lived. I was overweight and very depressed so I went out for a walk that evening with my dog. I knew nothing about triathlons and never exercised in my life. Not realizing it, I was standing on the last mile of the Ironman Race course. It was located near Diamond Head and lead down into a park where the finish line was. It was there that I saw the last finisher doing the "infamous Shuffle" and he looked terrible!! So, I "shuffled" with him! What a scene, I shall never forget! But I was hooked!

Since then I have completed 9 Ironman distances, over 500 triathlons, running, cycling, and swimming events. More than 26 marathons and countless miles and miles, over the last 30 years, to continue to motivate and inspire people at any age. To help let them know they can do it, even if they do not possess all the athletic abilities and skills. I was told that I could never do it and it could not be possible.

But my God given determination, perseverance along with my belief in Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me, makes this all possible!

Hey Coach, why make a comeback now? Tell me about the past few years.

Unfortunately, just before Christmas in 2010 Mom died, then I went through the worst depression of my life.

But I am "LEARNING TO MOVE ON" with God's help and my continued determination and  I am making up for lost time.

In June 21, 2011, I decided to move to Arizona. Then I decided to work on my dream. God helped me find a great house and took a while but completed my dream, I had a lap pool built!

I enjoy teaching children and adults of all ages and swim levels. Whether to teach a child to be water safe or work with an adult to complete their first triathlon.  I truly have the most rewarding job in the world and hat is to support, motivate and guide.

With my Personal Trainer certification and my USA Triathlon certification, I feel equipped to be a professional educated teacher.

Currently, I am training several women for the May 4, 2014  Espirit De She Triathlon. We are having so much fun training as this is their first triathlon and reminds me of when I did my first triathlon. But, back then, it was the Iron Man and there was no such thing as a sprint race.

Now, it gives people an opportunity to test the water!
